Choosing a carpet

Most of our carpets fall into three groups:

• Wool and wool blend carpets are warm, soft and recover well from footsteps, so they suit living rooms, bedrooms and stairs.
• Polypropylene and nylon carpets are hard wearing and easy to look after. They are a practical choice for family homes, rentals and busy hallways.
• Sisal, seagrass, coir and jute are natural plant fibres with a woven, textured look that sits well in period and modern homes.

The pile matters as much as the fibre. A twist pile gives a smooth, even finish. A loop pile, often called berber, is tough and textured. A saxony has a longer, deeper pile that feels soft underfoot. Wood, laminate and vinyl flooring

For hard floors we stock engineered wood in plank, herringbone and chevron patterns, laminate from Balterio and Xylo, and vinyl from Quick Step and Unnatural Flooring.

Engineered wood has a real wood top layer over a layered core, which makes it more stable than solid wood when the heating goes on and off. Laminate is hard wearing and good value for busy rooms. Vinyl is water resistant, which makes it the usual choice for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms.

Stair runners and rugs

A stair runner keeps painted or wooden stairs on show while adding grip and softness underfoot, a popular choice in Victorian and Edwardian houses across South West London. We measure your staircase and fit the runner for you.
